Oxford Wood Recycling

Oxford Wood Recycling is a social enterprise providing an environmentally friendly alternative to a skip for producers of wood waste in Oxfordshire, West Buckinghamshire and most of Berkshire. We specialise in recovering reusable materials from the waste collected, which provide local DIYers and woodworking enthusiasts with a sustainable source of low cost timber. See the Wood Shop album to get an idea of the materials we can offer. For waste wood producers, we can provide you with a comprehensive waste audit detailing the destination of all of your waste, which you may be required to have to comply with recent legislation governing the disposal of waste. For wood users, we have an ever changing array of both ordinary and unusual materials. From raised beds to garden sheds, floorboards to firewood, bookshelves to storage boxes or workshops to wine racks. If you can make it from wood our low cost, high quality supplies are sure to fit the bill.

Hi there, this is Alistair. I'm part of the Wood Shop team. Although our store is closed at the moment, that needn't stop us sharing information about wood online.

Since trees and timber are my specialist interest I'd like to share some info on different species and look at the wood which comes from them, drawing on the extensive collection of samples I have here at home.

I live in the Chiltern Hills where beech woods and conifer plantations both exist in abundance. Indeed some of the hardwoods we stock come from my local area.
Here are some of the lovely trees which grow in my neck of the woods.

What trees can you see from where you live? Or which do you encounter when out for your daily exercise?
If you have pics of notable or interesting trees that are local to you, then why not share them with us in the comments below.
Any that you can't identify could be a good topic for us to investigate in a future post.

Later we will look in detail at some of the trees seen in this post and I will show you some projects I've completed using those species.

In these times of closure, we want to continue to interact with you. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing information about our plans during the lockdown and we will also help you stay entertained at home with all things wood.

We will discuss topics like the best tools to use for DIY projects, furniture design ideas and types of wood, among others. In our first post of the series, Alistair from the Wood Shop Team will be discussing tree species and the types of wood that come from them. Stay tuned this afternoon! 😃

We apologise, but due to staffing issues Oxford Wood Recycling is closed today.

UPDATE: We will be open tomorrow (Tuesday) and hopefully the rest of the week.

Please do not visit the shop today as we have insufficient staff to open to the public.

If you are expecting a wood delivery or waste collection this week you will be contacted using the phone number/contact details you provided.

We will notify you of any changes to this as soon as new information is available.
