Wood Recycling Trainee

Part Time (25 hours) – Working Patterns: 7 am – 3.30pm or 8:30am-5pm pm  Wed, Thurs, Friday

Oxford Wood Recycling works to save wood from being wasted and reuses it in the community. We collect waste timber (mainly from building sites) in vans and bring it back to our yard.  We then sort the wood and take the nails out. We sell reusable timber in our wood store or make it into things like bookshelves, tables and bird boxes.

We are now recruiting a wood recycling trainee.  If you are practical, hands on, responsible and enjoy working as part of a team then this could be the position for you.

You need to be reliable and able to follow safety instructions to do this job. There are no fixed qualifications required but we hope that you share our enthusiasm for working with wood and helping the environment, and you are happy to be outside in all weathers.

What you will be doing:

Working to a set and supervised training programme for Community Wood Recycling traineeship. Covers working safely, wood economy, office and retail, waste and the environment, looking for jobs, application forms, CVs and interviews.

Support to achieve Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.

Collecting waste wood, sorting and processing recovered wood, and other warehouse duties.

Responsibility to work safety whilst loading, securing and unloading and whilst processing materials and performing warehouse duties.

Identification of recoverable wood for re use.

De-nailing and preparing wood for sale.

On occasions, working in the warehouse and the Wood Shop assisting with wood sales and wood processing activities as required.

After training, operate wood working machinery.

After training there will be opportunities to help customers in person and on the phone, developing the ability to give advice, as well as working the till and taking payment.

Other duties as required.

To undertake internal and external training as identified by your manager.

Experience and qualifications:

No formal qualification required.

Willing to learn and to follow our safety rules

Arrive on time every day

Polite and helpful to people you work with and customers (but we will give you time to build your confidence speaking to the public)

Enjoy doing things as part of a team or independently (after training), and willing to work hard at all aspects of the job
