In the first half of last year we were fortunate enough to secure the support and grant funding from OSEP’s eScalate programme, a three-year project, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) which runs until March 2022 to support Social Enterprises, social entrepreneurs, enterprising charities and purposeful businesses.
The grant covered fifty percent of the spend to kit out a new-work area with machinery, more specifically we kitted out a hardwood processing area with new saws and a planer thicknesser, much to the delight of Alistair. But the eSacalate programme is not only about accessing grant funding, it offers significant complementary business support such as Leadership and Business Sustainability programme (workshops), 1:1 support and Peer to Peer support. All of which we have taken advantage of here at OWR. So far Otto, our Collections Manager, has taken part in Peer-to-Peer Learning, Meet The Buyer‘ events and the Power of Purpose [week]. These events and activities give us a sense of perspective as to what else is happening, they help us build a network, and empower us to go out there and reach out rather than be internally focused.
All of these things will benefit OWR in the future and as a business as we develop further.
Our involvement was considered worthy of a case study by OSEP, which you can read here to find out more.
