Open During Lockdown
It’s amazing how we have become used to social distancing and enhanced hygiene at work. Human beings are very adaptable. However, it has also been noticeable just how much of a psychological toll the pandemic is having on our community.
At OWR we are anxious and uncertain about the future and having to dig deep to support each other. The latest lockdown is sure to increase mental health issues in the community and it’s good to be mindful going into winter that the costs of some comforting words to a neighbour or a colleague at work is minimal, yet the benefits can be great.
OWR will remain open during lockdown. We provide essential recycling and timber supply services for construction and other business and will remain open to customers at The Woodshop. Please be patient as we work to supply you with the timber and services that you need. Remaining open will help our sustainability next year and provide ongoing support for volunteer services but we don’t wish to compromise the safety of staff and customers so service may be a little slower than usual.
With the dark nights upon us once again and the colder weather here, it can only mean we’re approaching the festive period. As usual, we’ll be stocking ethical goods made by our own elves (e.g. Alistair in a hat) that we hope will bring you a warm glow.
Expect chopping boards from UK hardwoods, reusable wooden gift tags, our famous, even notorious mini tree decorations.
How about trying a DIY Hamper for someone you love this year? We have the perfect pallet wood boxes that can be reused as a seed tray or storage.
Hardwood Processing at Oxford Wood Recycling
Earlier this year we got some investment from The Postcode Lottery towards fulfilling our business plan to increase impact as an environmental social enterprise. We’ve been really busy with development over the summer and one result is a new hardwood processing area. With the benefit of new saws and a planer thicknesser, we can now re-size and finish character boards of oak, ash, cherry, cedar of Lebanon and yew up to 400mm wide. Wider boards can also be finished by hand. This locally sourced UK grown timber is stable and sustainable. The boards make ideal shelving, worktops, plinths and desks – all with the beautiful organic feel of a living edge (we call it waney!). Come down and choose your board with the help of our practical expertise!
look forward to welcoming you at OWR during November. If you prefer, please send an email with your requests for wood, hardwoods, timber or furniture and we will do our best to supply and deliver to you.
